Phantom Ocean thrives on contradiction: stewing blues, smirking pop-punk, discordant grunge—their music resists a single label. Instead, Drew and Sarah Smith craft soundscapes that shift between playful satire, raw reflections on mental health, and eerie tales of cryptids and folklore.
Formed in 2020 at the intersection of two life-changing events—the COVID-19 pandemic and their marriage—the pair have been evolving ever since. Their debut EP Secondhand Ghosts blended Sarah’s classical vocal training and percussion chops with Drew’s Jersey-bred love for classic rock, punk, and heavy blues. In 2024, they expanded their sonic palette with Phantasmagoria, an EP full of gritty garage vignettes and weighty riffs. The release was soon followed by “Carfax Abbey,” a vampiric single that’s as grounded in reality as it is steeped in gothic imagery.
Phantom Ocean’s work is theatrical, cathartic, and deeply rooted in storytelling—an outlet for misfits and dreamers alike.
