We are in the studio celebrating the meteoric rise of girls flag football with the pioneers leading the way in Massachusetts. Alicia Bernardo and Kayla Balamotis of All Girls Flag join us alongside talented athletes from Greater Lowell Tech, Peabody, and Essex Tech to discuss the goal of making the game a sanctioned high school sport by 2028. We also dive into college scholarship opportunities and the upcoming Olympic debut of girls flag football with insights from Coach Randy Phillips.

It was a great day in the studio celebrating the continued expansion of girls flag football with some of the pioneers of the game. Alicia Bernardo and Kayla Balamotis of All Girls Flag stopped by to discuss their organization’s mission to grow the sport and their push to see it sanctioned in Massachusetts by at least 2028.

We were also joined by several standout athletes, including Jayla Velez and Lexi Peralta from Greater Lowell Tech, Mia Riley Norton of Peabody, and national athlete Skyla Silveira of Essex Tech. Over 90 schools are currently participating, and the momentum behind girls flag football is undeniable. Coach Randy Phillips, a junior college coach and liaison for the sport in Rhode Island, also shared valuable advice on how athletes can promote themselves and navigate new scholarship opportunities.

With 5v5 flag football heading to the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, the future is bright for our local competitors. Maybe by 2032, we will see some of our local athletes competing for medals.
