MELTED
Huge thanks to Julie Hair and Nikki D’Agostino of Female Genius for joining Frankie Hollywood on MELTED on WaveRadio Boston!
We explored their album Jagged and Fractured, the stories behind their songs, and a creative approach that brings together experimental punk, visual art, found sounds, and haunting atmosphere.
Melted is presented to you by Rick Walker’s Rock N’ Roll Cowboy Clothes.
Julie’s creative history stretches back to New York City’s underground art scene, her collaboration with David Wojnarowicz, and their experimental post-punk band 3 Teens Kill 4. She brings that independent spirit to Female Genius through vocals, bass, synth, and percussion.
Nikki brings her own adventurous voice through saxophone and electronic wind instruments. An avant-garde composer and music technology educator at CUNY, she helps give the band its cinematic sound.
Alongside guitarist Janice Sloane and vocalist, keyboardist, and percussionist Jules “Mossy” Ross, they make music that invites you to listen closely and embrace the unexpected.
Featured tracks on the broadcast include:
– “Back of a Building,” a song about connection
– “Like a Stone,” about missing women
– “Bell Shaped Hand,” about trafficking
Women’s voices, creative freedom, and substance over ego are central to the Female Genius spirit. Julie and Nikki, thank you for sharing your stories, your music, and your evening with us!
