Frankie Hollywood taking over the airwaves for another edition of MELTED! We’ve got a fantastic show lined up as Matt Devine stops by to talk home-recording, 8-track tapes, and the story behind Ventilator’s 1996 psychedelic pop debut, Reseda Spleen!
Melted is presented to you by Rick Walker’s Rock N’ Roll Cowboy Clothes.
Inside the Conversation
The Making of Reseda Spleen
- Home Recording & Tascam 8-Track Recorded largely in Matt’s North Hollywood apartment on a Tascam eight-track, the album captures the raw creativity, technical limitations, and spontaneity of home recording in the mid-1990s.
- Key Collaborators & LA Scene Matt reflects on the 1990s Los Angeles music scene, the tight-knit friendships that shaped the project, and key contributions from Earle Mankey, Byron Reynolds, Jeff Caruana, and Brad Laner.
- Signature Sound The discussion explores Ventilator’s blend of melodic songwriting, heavily distorted guitars, lush psychedelic textures, and experimental recording techniques.
The Bar None Records Reissue
- Rediscovering the Record Matt discusses the original 1996 release, why Reseda Spleen became an overlooked cult classic, what it felt like hearing the tracks again years later, and how the Bar None Records reissue brings the album to a new generation of listeners.
- Vinyl Release & Availability The vinyl reissue of Reseda Spleen is available to order on Bandcamp. Fans can also stream the album across all major digital music platforms.
